ReSound Health

Welcome to ReSound Health. We are a public:private partnership established for the purpose of building Doctor’s surgeries and primary healthcare facilities fit for the 21st Century – and we’re helping to make Plymouth better, in every sense of the word.

Our first development Ernesettle G.P. Surgery, was opened in September 2005. The following year we opened our 60-bed Local Care Centre, built on the former Mount Gould Hospital site. This development also includes a GP’s surgery, pharmacy and a facility for mobile diagnostic units.

We are currently working on construction of a new Primary Care Centre for Cattedown. This will be a centre of excellence and a teaching practice for five GPs, as well as providing space for a two-chair dental practice and offices for the PCT. The GP’s from the existing Wycliffe practice will be relocating to the new Primary Care Centre in January 2008. Currently, their practice occupies very small premises, no longer suitable for the size of the patient list. The new building will give them sufficient space to provide a full range of services and will enable them once again to become a teaching practice.

Current plans include a 12-bed residential unit located close to Derriford. The £4 million CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service) unit has already been granted outline Planning Permission and is now in the process of detailed design. This development will provide a much needed service for the whole Devon & Cornwall peninsula and will help to improve the future for local youngsters through clinical research.

Other projects in the pipeline include another Local Care Centre and work is also currently in hand on a number of mixed-use developments, working in conjunction with our other partners Plymouth City Council and the Plymouth Hospitals Trust. These will include libraries, primary care and childcare facilities, together with community resource centres.

ReSound Health was set up as a public:private partnership under the Government’s LIFT (Local Improvement Finance Trust) initiative to develop facilities for primary & community-based health and social care facilities in the Plymouth area. The LIFT initiative is intended to introduce investment through private sector shareholders, to speed up the procurement process through long-term partnership between developer and end-user and to deliver projects which give value for money by working with a market-tested, construction supply chain.

The Department of Health, through their organisation Partnerships for Health (PfH) and Plymouth teaching Primary Care Trust (PCT) equally share a 40% stake in the business, while Sutton Harbour Holdings is the largest private shareholder with 37.2%. The remaining shareholding is shared equally by the Midas Group and project managers & healthcare consultants Cyril Sweett.
