Record year for Sutton Harbour Fisheries

Sutton Harbour Fisheries, part of the Plymouth-based Sutton Harbour Group, has reported a record year with the value of fish landed up 29% to almost £12 million, an increase of £3.5 million on the year before.
The record breaking performance makes Plymouth fishmarket the third biggest in England. In the year to the end of March, some 250 different boats had either landed their catch at Plymouth, or sent their catch to be sold through the market’s electronic auction.
Sutton Harbour Harbourmaster Pete Bromley said: “This is a fantastic achievement and Plymouth has grown to become the central selling hub for fish landed at smaller ports in Devon and Cornwall.
“That’s down to us using the latest technology through the electronic auction to achieve consistently good prices, and that means we’re helping to secure a profitable future for the South West’s fishing industry.”
Sutton Harbour Fisheries has achieved consistent growth since it first opened in 1995, despite what have been challenging times facing the fishing industry.
The company has worked closely with local fishermen to make sure it provides exactly what they need to remain profitable, including fuel, water, ice and assisted landing facilities at competitive rates.
This allows skippers to minimise their time in port and maximise their time at sea.
Sutton Harbour Fisheries forms part of the marine division at the Sutton Harbour Group which also includes Sutton Harbour Marina, providing 490 sheltered berths within the harbour in the heart of Plymouth’s historic Barbican.
